Marketing

I don’t know if you know this, but the British seem to have invented Marketing. There’s a guy called Rory Sutherland, the “fat bloke at Ogilvy”, who explains a lot of marketing tricks. See him explain on YouTube.

In the age of the Internet, marketing has become very easy to do. Anyone can put together a WordPress website and look like they’re a world leader!

Things you have to do on you website:

  • Look like you’re an expert, that means
    • You’ve been doing this for years
    • You have lots of colleagues who help you
  • So you need to
    • Provide more content
    • More types of content
    • Include market surveys
    • Cross-reference “industry” stuff

This Site is …

Your website nuubia-cooperativa as a Marketing concept is a Catalogue site. You just have to load it with Suppliers. Currently, you only have 4 or 5 and you’re stuck on coffee.

I would suggest you load up the site with stuff. It is quite easy to do. It doesn’t have to be high-grade, permission obtained, security checked.

You need to get the magic number of 20 or so entries in your catalogue. They don’t all have to be coffee. We know that some of your people also supply Honey, Cheese and so on. Just re-use the information you have.

You can easily use this web-site as a place for people to get contact details, but to get any “passing trade” – casual browsers looking for info – you need to load the site with information.

I can help if you like.

Economics: marginal costs

One of the things about working with Software is the marginal costs are negligible. We have

  • Effort – the number of people and the number of hours they put into a project
  • Cost – the amount of money you need to put into a project

Building websites is not like building a house. Once you have a website, you can copy it – no need to buy any new materials or put any extra effort into anything.

The effort for this WordPress site has been to take a WordPress site I no longer use and put it back into a Google Cloud Virtual Machine.

It has cost very little. I used a free domain name, I used a free SSL certificate. The hosting at Google costs about 20 euro cents a day.

For me, to copy this site is no cost and next to no effort. I just find another free domain, (5 minutes), make webserver configuration files, (5 minutes), clone a container and edit its webserver configuration file another 5 minutes and get the SSL certificate.

So less than 30 minutes. And then someone needs to provide new content.

So because it so cheap to do, I would recommend you try and catch more people with web-sites. Did you know that the most popular web-sites on the Web are baby and child care? So these are all plausible

  • Baby and child care in Mexico
  • Bringing up tri-lingual children
  • How to be an ex-pat in Rural Mexico
  • How to buy and build property in Rural Mexico

Then, all you need to do is monetize it. Either you write a book about it, or you blog and provide content and get subscriptions, or you sell your userbase.

So, once, you told me about offering a property search service for ex-pats. The pursue that, you would find the real property handlers – in English, they’re estate agents – find some lawyers who will promise to provide Visas and so on. You would put all this information onto a web-site and wait for your “fish” to nibble.

That’s the idea. And if nothing ever comes of anything, you can always use the websites when you’re claiming unemployment benefit!
